As life is not made up only of happy and funny moments, I would like to present to you a text that I found extremely emotive:
When deep pain reaches the hearts of those who claim to be Christians, and especially of the Spiritualists, this pain expresses itself through tears in their eyes.
At this point, it is common for the members of the same belief, friends, and relatives to be surprised with the shed tears and to ask questions such as:
Why are you crying? Aren´t you a Christian and/or Spiritualist? Where is your faith?
And the crying ones, already with their souls destroyed with the events they have to go through, still have to manage these attitudes that hurt their feeling as a sharp blade.
Then, these suffering fellows, who would expect a broad shoulder to cry on, a handshake, a hug, start suffering in silence.
They cry inside, because crying openly has been prohibited by senseless censorship.
Who said you cannot cry because of the departure of a loved one who left this life for his/her real home?
Who said you cannot shed tears when penury knocks on the door brought by unemployment; when the son gets involved with drugs; when ingratitude comes with its cruel dagger?
Those of us, who chose the wise man from Galilee as a model and guide and care about knowing his biography, can find in his teachings precious information about pain and tears.
Upon his arrival in Bethany and after learning about Lazarus´s death, facing Lazarus´s sisters’ (Mary) questions, the Wise Man sits on a stone and cries.
Why would he have cried? Surely not for his friend whom he knew was not dead, but simply in a lethargic state. However, he let the tears flow freely.
Maybe he wept for the incomprehension of people regarding who he was; the life objectives, and the immortality of the human spirit.
When Magdalene enters the banquet room in some Simon´s house and shed tears for her pain, her remorse mixed with the happiness for having met the love she was searching for so long, the son of man does not reprimand her.
On the contrary, he teaches the host: “Simon, I entered your house and you did not give me water for my feet. She, however, bathed them with tears and dried them with her hair”.
During the painful trip to Golgotha, when meeting the Jerusalem women who were crying the imminent death of the just man, the man who had blessed their children so many times, he stops.
He does not reprimand them for crying. Instead, he says that they should not cry for him, for he is walking towards glorification in the cross, but rather for themselves and for their children.
It can be seen that the humanity Model and Guide never spoke against tears of pain and regret.
Therefore, it is fair crying when your soul is mourning, when you are involved with pain.
The fact of being a Christian or a Spiritualist-Christian does not make you an insensitive creature. On the contrary, feeling somebody else´s pain is also a learning process.
What is not coherent is the despair, the shame, the complaint.
But tears? Why not, if they translate the soul mourning state?
Why not, if Jesus himself cried? Even he, the perfect being.
Let us think about that, let us be more authentic, reasonable and better understanding of others´ pains, which deserve all our respect.
After all, it was the Man from Galilee who taught us: Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
I wish you an excellent weekend.
